Effects of a novel dye containing toothpaste versus regular fluoridated toothpaste for supragingival biofilm reduction in patients with chronic gingivitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial

AIM:To compare the effects of a plaque disclosing toothpaste with regular fluoridated for supragingival biofilm reduction in patients chronic gingivitis.MATERIALS AND METHODS:This study was randomized controlled trial parallel design. Forty patients, both males and females aged 18-25 years generalized gingivitis (N=40) were randomly allocated to two groups twenty each (n=20), using lottery method. Participants experimental group brushed toothpaste, while participants control toothpaste. Clinically, measured Silness & Loe Plaque Index, at baseline follow up visits by assessors who blinded allocation. Adjunctly, intraoral photographs taken Digital Image Analysis remaining dental upper lower anterior labial tooth surfaces, calculated based on area stained pixels. Data analyzed SPSS version 22. Mean scores between compared independent sample t-test p<0.05 considered significant.RESULTS:Data all 40 as they no drop outs. No significant differences found mean (p=0.059) end study. Similarly, showed difference (p= 0.93).CONCLUSION:This that there are additional benefits enhancing removal during routine oral hygiene maintenance.
